What We've Been Learning

What We’ve Been Learning…

Math: We have been working on solving story problems. We have learned how to break a problem a part to ensure we understand what it is asking us to do. We then determine the important information that we’ll need to know in order to solve it. Then we use the best strategy we know to solve. Once we have our answer, we have been practicing checking our work. This means we need to ask ourselves, “Does my answer make sense?” The students have been using the opposite operation to help them find if they had correctly solved the problem. Finally, we have been working really hard on writing our answer and to include the units! Additionally, the students have been working on multiplication and division facts using Reflexmath in class.

Reading: We have wrapped up our unit on building a reading life! We will be moving into our character study unit. With this, we will begin a new mentor text, Because of Winn-Dixie. The students will begin to get to know a character as a friend. We will be noticing how our characters talk and act, developing theories about what type of character they are (character traits), and more! The students have also been working on writing about their reading in their Reader’s Workshop Journals.

Science: We will begin our 3rd grade science rotation this week! Our class will be going to Ms. Diamond’s room and will begin a new unit on Weather and Climate. Science classes will be held twice a week for the next 6 weeks.  After that the students will rotate to the next teacher and the next science unit for 6 weeks. In class we continue to study about force and motion, and coding.

Other: Cursive continues. The students have learned how to correctly write the following letters: a, c, d, e, f, g, h, l, p, and t. We continue to remind ourselves t begin a, c, d, and g with a “magic c”.  We have 2 more Kimochi lessons with Ms. Jen. Poetry with Mz. P also continues.
